Rachel and Ian – Wedding Highlight Video – Carnivale Restaurant Chicago
Rachel is a planner. Several people throughout the day reminded us of that fact while we were filming. It was obvious. The wedding venue was beautiful, the vendors were carefully selected, there were performers, magicians, acrobatics, exotic birds and more. However, all the magic that was February 1, 2014 was planned quickly for a very sad reason.
When Rachel first contacted us, she told me about all the incredible acts and entertainment she wanted to have at her wedding. I was excited she had chosen Obviouschild Productions to capture the once-in-a-lifetime event. At the time, her wedding was still 9 months away. However, just before the new year, Rachel’s father became extremely ill. Doctors did not give him long to live. Rachel and Ian, without hesitation, traded in the wedding they had been planning for a ceremony with even more richness and meaning. Rachel and Ian, while fulfilling their own dreams of getting married, would give a final gift to her father. A gift that any father wants for their daughter: To walk her down the aisle and giver her away to an amazing man who loves her and will take care of her for the rest of her life. Rachel’s father passed away just days after they were married. The couple had so many kind words for the staff of Rush Hospital – who helped plan the intimate ceremony, offered spaces, and cared for her father in his final days.
The day we were part of occurred just 5 weeks later. So all the magic of the wedding reception, the celebration of life, was planned and put together in about one month. I think the video shows just how many details there were; making it even more amazing. We know her father was watching. I remember when Rachel told us that she decided there would be no first dance that night. She said she did the first dance at the hospital, and her father was there to witness it. I found it touching – no reason to do it again. The only ‘first dance’ of their life, her dad was there to see. As the film progresses, along with their story, we focus on the joyousness of the day.
Thanks to Terry, who captured the hospital wedding. With so much mixed emotion surrounding their wedding we wanted to show both sides. A story that has bitter-sweet moments, but is ultimately still a celebration of the love they share. The short wedding video plays much the same.
Chicago is a world-class city for fine-dining and entertainment and Carnivale happens to be an A-list stop for foodies and wine connoisseurs. Carnivale fits Rachel and Ian’s personalities and their wedding reception perfectly – it’s energetic, colorful, glamorous and wild. We are so glad we could be a part of their special day! Congratulations from Josh and Jamie of Obviouschild Productions!
